Honey

In 2023, the economic value of U.S. honey production was estimated at $349.2 million. Top producing honey states include North Dakota, South Dakota, California, Florida and Texas.
California produced 13.3 million pounds of honey from 310,000 colonies, valued at $32.8 million, with an average yield of 43 pounds per colony.
Honey production fluctuates yearly, influenced by factors such as colony losses, drought conditions affecting nectar plants and market prices.
Unfortunately, US beekeepers have to continuously fight against importation of fraudulent/adulterated honey created by using cheaper sugar sources such as rice, corn and beet syrups.
Efforts throughout the United States’ honey industry are in place to ensure the integrity of U.S. produced honey and to ensure the safety of the product. One of the most important ways the public can support the US beekeeping industry is to buy local or US honey.
