Why Join CSBA?
Merriam Webster defines a “swarm” as a great number of persons or creatures massed together. Usually in motion.
CSBA values all bees — whether they’re commercial, non-commercial or native pollinators. But we recognize that managed bees are doing the work of feeding the world.
The best way we can protect the future of commercial beekeeping is to band together, raise our voices and mobilize to defend the important role we play in producing food.

CSBA’s ‘Join the Swarm’ newsletter is designed for prospective members or interested parties who want to understand more about the organization and its activities. This is not the same as the ‘Bee Times’ newsletter which is available only to CSBA members.
Benefits of Membership
The California State Beekeepers Association is an organization that exists to support professional beekeepers and California’s pollination needs. But that job is getting tougher as we work to:
- Advocate for fair laws and regulations that allow us to run our businesses
- Fight for access to forage land
- Deal with rising operating costs of everything from labor to fuel
- Fund critically important research on bee health
- Contend with drought, heat and adverse weather
- Fend off mites, pests and diseases without the adequate tools to do so
- Compete with inexpensive, imported and, often fraudulent, honey
- Protect our hives from bears and other thieves
- Watch out for Africanized bees and other invasive species
- Face increasing conflicts with environmental activists and from within the beekeeping community.
Joining CSBA provides you with support to deal with all of these issues and more. Membership fees are used to support thousands of dollars in research each year that helps us learn how to better take care of and protect our bees. Membership in CSBA also gives you access to a network of other professional beekeepers who face similar challenges and entitles you to discounts for our Annual Convention.
