Greetings: It seems there is some other big event happening near Shelter Island during our November Convention, and lodging space is tight everywhere. If you plan to attend and have not yet booked lodging, please do so right away, it’s only going to get harder as time passes. Convention registration itself has no such time pressure, though we appreciate early signups, and they’re cheaper than paying at the door!
Following is the what CSBA President Dion Ashurst has been able to discover and/or arrange, roughly in order of desirability for the average attendee:
For our contracted hotel, the Kona Kai, use group code 1114CSB. The rest of the information is accessible when you try to book a room via the link to them on the Events page of the CSBA website. You will not be able to get a group-rate room for Monday the 14th, and the 15th mayalso be in that category by now; there may still be a few group-rate rooms forWednesday and Thursday. We’re hoping there may still be a few going–rate rooms for Monday and Tuesday, but the going rate is quite a lot higher than the group rate.
The Bay Club hotel and Marina is just down the street on Shelter Island. We do have a room block there, but no group code is required, just say you are with the California State Beekeepers Convention. Rates are comparable to the group rate at the Kona Kai, but they are only good for the 15th – 17th. The phone number is (619) 224-8888; their website is www.bayclubhotel.com.
The Cabrillo Inn & Suites is not on Shelter Island, but it’s only a few blocks away on the direct route; again, there is no reserved block or group code. Their number is (619) 223-5544; their website is www.cabrilloinnsd.com.
Finally, the Sheraton at the San Diego airport may be a good option, especially if (as we definitely s
uggest) you bring or rent a car. There is no reserved block or group code. Their number is (619) 291-2100; their website is http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=127.
We hope this information is helpful to those planning to attend the Convention, and that we will see lots of you there: this is going to be a really good one!
