Hive Theft in Galt

From 2-10-20 from approximately 2330hrs to 2-11-20 approximately 1430hrs in the 27000 block of N Lower Sacramento Rd in Galt, 36 olive green colored, double stacked, eight frame, 90% plastic inside, beehives with no owner specific markings were taken worth approximately $12,240. (V) spoke to a WMA a few days prior on the property where the bee hives were taken from driving an older blue colored possible VW Pasat, unknown if related.

Request for Proposals: Bee Where Grant

The California State Beekeepers Association received a 2019 California Specialty Crop Block Grant, titled Bee Where, GIS Technology to Protect Pollinator Populations for Specialty Crops. This grant is aimed at educating the agricultural industry about the newest technology, Bee Where, in the beekeeping and application industries.

The CSBA is currently seeking proposals for a public relations firm to handle the execution of marketing and education tools. Please respond with proposals by October 18, 2019.

Bringing beekeepers and pesticide applicators together to share best practices by tracking and safeguarding hive locations across California using innovative mapping tools.

BeeWhere tracks hive locations to help stakeholders address pollinator protection in the field. Although regulations have been in place for decades around beekeepers’ registration, BeeWhere helps streamline registration and provides information to foster communication between beekeepers and pesticide applicators during bloom.

For the 2019 Bloom Season, Beekeepers can register through the two interfaces for FREE (County registration fees will still apply)

2.10.19 & 2.11.19 HIVE THEFT

On February 11th, 2019, Deputies responded to the 30800 Block of Road 60, in Goshen, in regards to a theft of bee boxes. The stolen bee boxes were an assortment of colors and stamped with “GUNTER” on the sides. Deputies processed the area and collected evidence from the scene. Detectives from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department Ag Crimes Unit took over the investigation.

February 10th – 96 hives stolen from Gunter Honey
February 11th – 96 hives stolen from SP Godlin Apiaries

Swinger Forklift was used to load and remove the bees on the nights of Sunday, February 10th and Monday, February 11th.
